Nature of Business: Hyperion, the book publishing division of ABCI'm an entrepreneur within a large corporation. I was hired in 1990 to start up a publishing company for Disney, and I've been romantically pursuing that goal ever since. I love the feeling of making things happen that wouldn't happen otherwise, and I get that from making Hyperion happen and from the publication of our individual books. But I also value the ability to work collaboratively in a small company, partly because I have the chance to allow others to act as entrepreneurs within their individual departments at Hyperion.
I think that many young people worry too much about making the right choice of college, or the right choice of first job, etc… The more important thing is for you to take action, to move forward boldly. If you are stuck on the path, waiting for something to happen to you, you'll go nowhere, no matter how perfect the path might be. But if you are moving forward, one thing will lead to another and to another.
Move forward boldly! And be persistent over time. That's how you will succeed, and what will ultimately give life meaning.
