"The Reasonable Man adapts himself to the world around him.  The Unreasonable Man persists in adapting the world around him to himself.  Therefore all progress depends on the Unreasonable Man."  - George B. Shaw   I was the kid who, when his mother told him a toy was too expensive, I went home and attempted to 'make'  the toy I desired. I would use the materials around me, tape, cardboard boxes, wires etc... to make what I wanted. I suppose I've always thought like that without hesitating or thinking of the risk involved or that it might not work.  I always figured that there was somebody on the other end of every item, design or whatever and all they started with was an idea.  They took the idea and made something out of it.  I quickly figured out that all I needed to start anything was an idea.  This thinking with my ambition led me to be the 'Unreasonable Man' in school.  I wanted to challenge everything, sometimes to show that there was alternative ways to do things, other times it was just plain adolescent rebellion, alot of times it was because I wanted to find solutions.  I became an entrepreneur because I still like using the materials around me to make something happen, to make something new, something profitable and something that can help others.  I became an entrepreneur because I wanted to give life to ideas.

The most important lesson that I've learned is that failure is just a stepping stone to success.  Each time that you try something that doesn't work, you can never lose the lesson; each time you fail, you are that much closer to succeeding, but if you never try then you will never know.  Failure is something that you can't be afraid of, just accept that it is going to happen sometimes but take what you learn and apply it on your next project.  Each time you do that, you're starting at a different, more educated position than the last time.

I want to encourage you to get started early. If there is something that you are interested in pursuing, don't always wait for it to be taught in class or for someone to show you.  By then, it may be too late.  Learn how to teach yourself through researching opportunities and developing your ideas on your own.  One common thing that stops alot of 'would-be' entrepreneurs is the "well, they already have something like that..."  mindset.  Just know that really, there is 'nothing new under the sun'; that chances are there are ideas similar to yours. Find out about them, and find a way that you could do it better, but never let it stop you from pursuing entrepreuership.  Also, don't let "Dream Stealers" get in your way. Dream Stealers come in all shapes and forms, they could be your friends, family and even teachers.  They'll often remind you that "there is already something like that" or "I knew a guy who tried that once...", or they will tell you about all of the hurdles in entrepreneurship.  Take everything with a grain of salt, but in the end don't let it discourage you from doing what you want to do. Finally, it is important to read about other enterprenuers who made it.  You will often find that they started just like you and they failed as well.  Learn how they dealt with people who told them they wouldn't succeed after they failed a few times.  Learn how all these things were vital componets to their success.
