Nature of Business: On the Page offers script consultation and screenwriting classes for writers at all levels.I became an entrepreneur because it allowed me the freedom to create my own materials, set my own hours, act on my instincts, and try out new ideas.
The most important lesson that I've learned is to focus on the job. Whether it's a one-on-one consultation or a crowd of one-hundred, everyone I'm dealing with needs to feel that they're being understood and heard. People know when you're faking it. If they're paying you for a service, give them your attention.
I want to encourage you to try everything. There's nothing that says you have to know what you want or who you're going to be at a young age. Exploring all of your talents and developing different skills will eventually help you figure out what you love and what you're good at. In my twenties, I acted, dabbled in stand-up and read scripts for movie studios. Eventually, all of those interests combined. Now I teach large classes using my performing skills, and work with writers on their movie scripts using my analytical skills.
